Short Episode Guide:

Episode 1:

Xu Junying and Xiao Huijin met in grade school. She was blind and he became her protector. 

He used his hand to keep her from getting wet. They even drank water from the same water fountain. (Like the Stairways to Heaven scene)

Junying said: You know why the sky is Blue? Because red doesn’t looks good!”

Junying always walk Huijin home, or when she’s angry, he rides in his bike silently and sees his blind friend home.

Huijin fell off one day; Junying went to the secret place to get cloth for her wound, Lee Jianyu came and placed a handkerchief on her wound. That’s how she metJianyu.

Episode 2-4:

Huijin grew up to be a pretty lady. Junying still takes care of her.

Junying already likes Huijin but he cant tell her, he can’t kiss her.

Huijin left for the US with her aunt.

Episode 5:

Aunt wants to have the operation for Huijin’s eyes so she married an American man and they went to live with him in America.

Junying and Huijin still send each other their recorded voice tapes, they say, “I love you” without a sound from their mouths.

Junying’s mom died in the hospital.

Junying and Jianyu became close friends back in Korea in school.

Episode 6:

Jianyu was sent to the US to study.

Huijin and her aunt left her aunt’s husband, because he is a drunkard and he hurts aunt when he drinks lots of beer.

He also burns and destroys Huijin’s letters from Junying.

Jianyu sees Huijin in a park when she gave him a coin, paying him for his public guitar performance she loved.

Jianyu helped Huijin get a job as a singer in his family’s restaurant.

Huijin still records tapes for Junying, she even tells him she loves him loudly already.

Junying transferred to Seoul and didn’t get Huijin’s letters.

Episode 7:

Huijin became a favorite and famous singer in Junying’s restaurant.

Junying lost the necklace Huijin gave him, Huazhen saw it, and sent the necklace to Huijin telling her Junying is already died.

Jianyu is already crazy in love over Huijin.

Episode 8:

With Jianyu’s help, Junying was able to come to US to find Huijin. He didn’t get to see her, he saw Brother Charlie here too.

Junying wasn’t able to meet Huijin because they had already transferred; he went to Aunt Yinji’s drunkard ex-husband and told him to stay away from Huijin and Aunt Yinji.

Junying and Jianyu fight together side by side against the drug lords. (I love these scenes when they fight together!)

Huijin was hospitalized.

Episode 9:

Huijin still loves Junying; they almost met in the hospital.

Huijin tried to jump off the hospital building but Jianyu stops her in time.

Junying has already returned to Korea, never seeing Huijin; he joined the military service.

Jianyu paid for the eye operation for Huijin so she can see again. She never knew it.

Junying is in military and can’t read Huijin’s letters sent to her old address.

Years later, Jianyu proposed to Huijin and told her, “You are my lady!” and kissed her. (This is such sweet proposal, you should see!)

They went back to Korea already engaged.

Episode 10:

Junying works in a construction site.

Junying sees Jianyu and Huijin together engaged. He has a feeling she’s the Huijin he loves because she looks the same only that she can see now. He didn’t say anything.

Jianyu and Huijin don’t know anything. Huijin only knows Junying’s voice but as she hasn’t seen his face she doesn’t know it’s Junying.

Junying saw Aunt Yinji and now knows that Jianyu and he both love the same woman.

Episode 11:

Jianyu starts a recording company with Jianyu as his composer and Huijin the singer.

Jianyu’s dad arranges another marriage for Jianyu to his friend Zhixiu.

Jianyu’s dad’s conditions are he allows Huijin to record and release her cd but Jianyu marries Zhixiu but Jianyu doesn’t agree.

With the help of friends, Huijin’s concert went through and didn’t get cancelled.

Episode 12:

As they work closely together, Huijin tells Junying she begins to like him. She became a big hit as a singer.

Jianyu and Huijin had a big falling out because dad doesn’t like her. They had a fight.

Huijin heard Junying play their song on guitar in their secret place. She already knew he was Junying right there.

Episode 13:

Korean media hounded Huijin; papers were writing that the famous singer is dating her composer when she is in fact engaged to Jianyu.

Huijin tried to leave Jianyu, but Jianyu lost everything now, she can’t leave him for Junying.

Junying waited for Huijin at the pier but she didn’t came back.

Episode 14:

Jianyu and Huijin tell media men that they are getting married.

Li and his gang tried to kidnap Huijin so she doesn’t get to audition in the part that his girl, Huazhen, likes.

Junying saves Huijin from the gang and was hospitalized.

Episode 15:

Junying was hospitalized and was diagnosed with a liver problem that can kill him.

Jianyu visited him and read his name on the door, he realized that they both were loving the same woman and the man that Huijin loved all her life is still alive and he is his best friend.

Jianyu learned that Xu Junying and Xu Jun Quan are one and the same person.

Episode 16:

Jianyu gives up his music business and focused on management so his dad will allow him to be engaged to Huijin.

Huijin and Jianyu became officially engaged.

Episode 17:

When Jianyu sees Junying and Huijin together, he knew everything already, that they love each other.

Jianyu tells Huijin not to let his family know about this.

Huijin gave back Jianyu the engagement ring he gave her in New York. She leaves everything behind.

Episode 18:

At a beach, Huijin and Junying meet again, it’s fate that they found each other again.

Junying gave Huijin the ring that he so wanted to give her before. They went away together.

Jianyu knew about all this that he went and destroyed the secret place of Huijin and Junying.

Everything in Jianyu’s life is published in the newspapers by his brother-in-law to ruin him and his standing in the company.

Junying still composes songs. (Cameo role here for Jo Sung Mo!!)

Episode 19:

Jianyu tried to take Huijin away from Jianyu, but he lets her out of the car and she runs to Junying.

Jianyu told his dad that his wedding if off. His company is in trouble because of his brother-in-law’s doings.

Li Zhen Bu (the gang leader) recorded his dealings with the brother-in-law and gave the tapes to Huazhen who gave it to Junying and he gave the tapes to Jianyu to help him.

Brother-in-law Wu Chan Zhen tried to hurt Jianyu but Jianyu and Junying fought side by side again against his gang.

Episode 20:

Jianyu’s sister is pregnant with his brother-in-law’s kid. He punishes his brother-in-law for everything by sending him away.

Auntie Yinji opens her own pub & restaurant.

Huijin and Junying made love and spent the night together.

Li Zhen Bu (The gang leader) tried to kill Jianyu but he shoots the gun at Junying.

He was dying but wants to see Huijin sing for the last time. (Cameo role here of Han Jung Eun/ Lorraine of Full House!)

Junying died.

Few years after, Huijin watches her & Junying’s son play the guitar and they walked away from the secret place together.

What I Think:

I have high hopes when I started watching this series, I was a bit disappointed. Kwon Sang Woo is such a great actor, he can easily cry, he makes me cry too. Yun Jung Hoon was amazing too as the rich, temperamental best friend! This was the first time that I have seen Yun Jung Hoon in a series, I usually see his name in Showbiz Extra but this is the first time I have seen him act. Kim Hee Sun, same with her, this was the first time I have seen her act too. For me she was just Eric Moon’s ex-girl.

Kim Hee Sun gave such a sullen, wooden performance I didn’t like her acting, she doesn’t have spunk, in all parts of the movie even in the scenes where she already gained her eye sight and when she should be happy joy joy and all with Yun Jung Hun, jezez Christ! She looks so freaking wooden, no feelings, no laughter, no nothing! Man… it makes me think that she kinda, just kinda (don’t go on hating me people.. J ) jinxed the whole series. Her acting can’t compare with the superb acting of Kwon Sang Woo and Yun Jung Hun’s.

Yun Jung Hun, omg Yun Jung Hun, I think I might have to add him up in my fave list of k-actors! While I was watching the series, I was nonstop texting Atche Cher, just raving and going gaga over Jung Hoon!! I have a not so little crush on Yun Jung Hun now! He was so good in here! He can carry any clothes too, he looks so good! I was even rooting for him to end up with Kim Hee Sun! Aish!! And his English is just so good! I swear, I keep on rewinding the scenes where they were in the US and Yun Jung Hun was just spitting perfect English phrases all over!! Oh God!! Ha Ga In is just so lucky to be married to this guy! It was just marvelous that he got this role instead of Song Seung Hun, cause I don’t know how SSH can speak well the English lines, does he speak good English, I haven’t heard him do so.

The title really suits up this series, Sad Sonata, the ending is really sad..no, the whole series is just so sad. No wonder this series didn’t rake in big in the ratings

The supporting cast too! Omg they provide great comic relief! I love MC Mong in here, he was absolutely funny! And Brother Charlie and Aunt Xu Yinji, they were all great! I actually like the supporting cast so much! The bar girls sisters, Lily and Mimi are funny too, and Mimi is very pretty I should say!!

The kid actors too are great, The kid who played young Jun Ying was really cute! Hahha! 

So right now, I have a last song syndrome and it is the series ost, L-O-V-E! Aish!! I find myself singing it anywhere! And the other song, the konglish song” Wherever you go…”

I love the scene where Jianyun (Yun Jung Hun) proposes to Hui Jin (Kim Hee Sun) in NYC, he closes both his hands and tells her, Choose one.” He opened one hand Hui Jin chose and nothing was in it, “ This is Lee Jian Yu’s hand, you picked him (then he opened the other hand with the engagement ring in it) it is the same” Then he placed the ring on her finger, kissed her and said “You are my lady.”  Yun Jung Hun really has a nice smile!

On 17th 12:39pm Kwon SangWoo left a text with a title "Thanks so much for your love for Sad Sonata during these days" as ID "Jun Young". There several months when I was Seo JunYoung... I won't forget it forver.
He wrote, "Today I watched quietly the last episode of "Sad Sonata" with my family. There's still a deep pity in my heart. While watching the last episode... I was thinking that current work will end soon."
"During these days, I indeedly encountered many difficulties, while facting to them, I could endure and get through because of your supports. Also, I won't forget all of you fans..." to express his thanks.
At last he wrote to his fans "Please take care of yourselves and don't get cold when the season changes.", and promised " I will appear in front of you as more better image."

Following Kwon SangWoo, Kim Hee Sun, who played the part of Park Hae In, also gave her last regards to fans as ID HEESUN on 18th 1:30 am.
Kim Hee Sun wrote, "I feel very happy for getting so much love from you. I really want to say thanks to all of you. Not like what people wanted, Park HaeIn is still alive. While watching the last episode, I was weeping but still laughing. During most the half year, I almost become Park HaeIn. As same as you, I also have regrettable feeling. But because of shooting with full enthusiasm, I really feel very happy. Thanks so much for your love."
Kim Hee Sun listed parts' name such as JunYoung, GunWoo, Charlie, Aunt and so on, and express her thanks to them, "From now on I couldn't see these names any more, I feel very sad."
Then she expressed "I'm very healthy". And she asked for people that, "please don't forget Sad Sonata, and care about Hae In's life in future." Kim HeeSun eneded her message just like the title, "Because of you, I really feel very happy."
Kwn SangWoo and Kim HeeSun's true love since childhood in "Sad Sonata", and their acting as a sad couple have made people feel it true and got much love from many audience.

This series was aired together with SBS’s Stained Glass and KBS’s Sea God. Omg if I were to choose between this and Stained Glass, I think I will watch Stained Glass. J

The series has 3 osts! Beat that! And Song Seung Hun has 2 songs in the osts! Kim Hee Sun, Yun Jung Hun all sang songs for the ost, but Kwon Sang Woo doesn’t sing anything. Oh yeah! I like to note that Yun Jung Hun actually plays the guitar really well. I am not too sure about him playing the piano. I still don’t know the title of my favorite song…the one with “ wherever you go..” lyrics in it.
