Qi Wei Yi (portrayed by Vic Zhou) 25 years old, intelligent, talented, excells in all areas. The confident Wei Yi has always believe that there's no "misfortunes" in the world, there's only "not try hard enough." Because of this, he's so strict on others that he's almost merciless. This is until his doctor tells him that he has liver cancer with only 3 months to live and when he meets Zhao Shen Shen again. Wei Yi slowly changes because of Shen Shen and lives the last 3 onths of his life nicely. Gradually he understands the meaning of pursuing life and love.
Zhao Shen Shen (portrayed by Park Eun-hye) 23 years old, Chinese-Korean, in an accident she loses her ability to speak. But this didn't bring complete misery, but instead it helped her to better understand how to use her heart to listen to and understand others. She didn't give up because of her mishaps and you can't see the inferiorities of disabled people in her. She substituted it with honesty and optimism. Though she can't speak, but the "love" in her heart is more intense than anyone else.
Zuo Jun (portrayed by Andy Hui) 27 years old. When he was young he was rebellious and playful, harming Shen Shen to become mute in an accident. Although on the surface it seems that Zuo Jun refuses to admit he's wrong, inside he holds himself responsible. To make up for his wrongdoing, he decides to protect Shen Shen from any kind of harm and unconsciously falls in love with Shen Shen. He's convinced that he's the only one who can give her happiness. In the name of love, he blocks Shen Shen and Wei Yi from development and doesn't hesitate to do sinful things. This is all because he wants to keep the girl at his side.
Mi Xiao Guang (portrayed by Megan Lai) 26 years old, Wei Yi's fiancee, serious, competent, independent, wants to use her abilities to have a breakthrough achievement in her career and prove her strength. Although there aren't many feelings between her and Wei Yi but they have a steady tacit understanding of each other. When Wei Yi suffers from cancer and dismisses their engagement, she couldn't help but reconsider what "love" is.
Because of an accident Wei Yi was sent to the only hospital in the village. Getting bored while recuperating, Wei Yi accidentally discovers an old air-raid shelter hospital room. Through a secret in the room he unexpectedly meets a Korean girl, Shen Shen, 2 years younger than him who became mute from an accident. Furthermore, a simple and pure love aroused. However, they end up losing contact with each other.
Nine years later, Wei Yi is occupied with many business affairs. He bears his parents' expectations of him succeeding them. He doesn't have a life full of perils, making him confident as well as dazzling. One day Wei Yi mercilessly fired a worker. To his surprise, the next day a mute girl and a hoodlum guy came to ask for justice. Wei Yi never thought that the mute girl was the Zhao Shen Shen from 9 years ago.
Because of Shen Shen's righteousness, this mute girl left Wei Yi a deep and favorable impression. Because of fate, the two keep on bumping into each other. Even though they get mad over little things every time, but seeing the way Shen Shen does sign language Wei Yi felt like he was brimming with magnificent vitality. Argue for the sake of arguing with Wei Yi has become apart of Shen Shen's silent life.
At this time, a” misfortune" suddenly befallen him. His doctor verified that he had liver cancer and only had 1 more year to live. All of a sudden Wei Yi recalled a promise. The time capsule he and Shen Shen buried 9 years ago that said childhood memories would unlock 10 years later...
Wei Yi dismisses his engagement with his fiancée and goes to the place the2 agreed to meet at. As death drew near, fate arranges for Wei Yi and Zhao Shen Shen to meet again! Zhao Shen Shen was actually that mute girl.
With his life about to end, Wei Yi decides to hide his identity and slowly changes because of Shen Shen, living the last 365days of his life nicely. But Wei Yi's father Zhen Yang is furious that his son has changed because of an out-of-the-blue mute girl and decides to resolve this impediment personally. To protect Shen Shen, Wei Yi agrees to return to Taiwan to get treated. The day Wei Yi leaves Dalian Shen Shen accidentally finds out that Wei Yi was her love many years ago. She also finds out that Wei Yi only had 1 more year to live! The love deeply suppressed within her heart was completely dispersed at this moment. Shen Shen chases after Wei Yi's car, crying all the way and trying to call out to Wei Yi...Shen Shen's voice is finally back after 9 years!....
I have already written a really awesome review for this series way way back, was that 2005, when it was first aired in ctv, everything in Chinese. My pc bugged down and I lost y Silence files, so I had to rewrite this all over again and remember the stuff I said way back.
Compared to Jerry Yan’s The Hospital (which aired almost in the same year, channel and timeslot), this one has a better storyline, the scenes were nicely written and constructed but I have to say that it really dragged on in the ending part. Some scenes were even cinematic.
Vic Zhou in Silence – there is another side of Vic’s acting that is revealed here. In Meteor Garden, he was relying in his manga-bishonen-good looks, in Mars he was strong and brooding, in Silence he was cool, unfazed and in control. There is just something about Vic that I just cannot point my fingers on but he has a great commanding presence and aura about him tat when it’s his scene, you just notice him..maybe it’s the distinguished handsome looks, or his sleek, suave suits. He still lacks depth in some of the crying scenes though and he has great chemistry with Park Eun Hye.
Park Eun Hye – She made mute seem so beautiful. Her sign language seems effortless, very natural. She was sweet, sincere and mild-mannered. Producers tailor-made this role for Eun Hye because she cannot speak mandarin, so they made her mute. I think this is the first time that I was so enamored by an actress whose role is a mute girl, and I am actually rooting for her to end up with Wei Yi.
Andy Hui – I respect him as a senior actor and all but there is just something about his face that bugs me…tsk aish…he does everything to break up the couple, I just want to freakin slash him of the screen, I guess that shows how good an actor he is. I mean come on seriously between him and Zaizai who would we choose? ^_^ And if you guys, like me have seen this series in its original ctv Chinese run, holy Buddha, it makes me go crazy the way he switches from Mandarin to Cantonese – because I can only understand Mandarin, and I sort of panic when he says lines in Cantonese.
Fast notes on supporting cast, Yellow is played by Kingone Wang Chuan Yi. He is the hottie whom Ranie Yang had a crush in Devil Beside You. He is just so cute isn’t he? I have a hard time getting over his cuteness factor.
Nice scenes:
@ Wei Yi first finds out about Shen Shen's true identity
@ Shen Shen asking Wei Yi to choose between the 2 postcards in the church, oh I love this scene
@ Wei Yi and Shen Shen are living together @ Wei Yi reading the message that Shen Shen sent him, where she confessed that she liked him
@ Wei Yi hugging Shen Shen in the rain
Rating: 8 Taiwanese Taicha out of 10
My fave rain scene:
They look so cute at the premiere of the series...
He plays as the heir of a millionaire grandpa whose will is to give all the inheritance to Jae-kyung once he turns 18 and after he graduates from high school. Being the grandson of a millionaire makes him very spoiled. He skips school; he beats up people and asks the lawyer to bail him out every time. Once he turns 18, his grandpa's right-hand person tells him that in order to get the inheritance; he needs to transfer to this small city outside of Seoul and to graduate from that high school. To his nightmare, he tends to fire the lawyer but he can't do it if he wants to keep the great inheritance. In that small village, he meets with the girl whom he never realized to have known since he was just a little boy. His past enfolds. He used to live in an orphanage also and his foster parents died in an accident. From then on, he forgets all his past including the orphanage and his little girlfriend, his first love, Choi Eun-hwan
Lee Yeon Hee – as Choi Eun-han
She is an orphan who lived all her life in a small village. She was abandoned by her mom, who can't recognize her when she came up to see her again. Being rejected by her mom, and ridiculed to be the girl who 'screw' her son's life (she thought Eun-hwan was pregnant when she met her), Eun-hwan goes up to Seoul to meet her old friend, her first love, Kang Jae-kyung. When they finally meet up again, she keeps quite and didn't tell him who she is. Will their love reacquaint again after that many years? And what happen to her terminal heart disease in which bring all the tragedy in this movie....
Summary:
From its title, the film "A Millionaire’s First Love" poses the ridiculous premise that somehow a story of A Millionaire’s First Love will be different from anyone else's. In the movie, at least, it is. Jae-gyung (Played by Hyeon Bin), a saucy high school drop-out who has no purpose in life than to inherit a huge sum in real estate from his wealthy grandfather, learns that his money can't buy love. That fact comes across as a shock to a boy who hasn't had to worry about little things like a cash settlement for punching his classmate in the face, because he always has a personal lawyer who can run down to the police station to pay a fine. Before he can inherit his grandfather's bequest, however, Jae-gyung is forced to go to a tiny school in a rural village to obtain a diploma. There he meets a clever young girl who is dying from a heart disease, Eun-hwan (Lee Yeon-hee). That's as far as the story's outline goes. And as simple as its plot might sound, the story's character development is even simpler. He is rich. She's poor. He's healthy; she's dying. He's from the city. She's from the countryside. The film juxtaposes classic elements of "pure" and "tainted". In the end, of course, it's the girl who's dying, who's poor, who was raised in the pure land of the countryside who converts a tainted spoiled city boy. The film leaves a bad taste in the mouth because it doesn't even try to add a twist of any kind. But hey, the film is a teenage fantasy. No one should expect social realism. But considering the limits of a teenage romance starring Hyeon Bin, the Korean heartthrob from the popular TV drama "My Lovely Samsoon" ("My Name is Kim Sam-soon") the film also has its own irresistible charms. The images in the opening credits of flashing numbers on screen as Jae-gyeong, in his loosely-worn school uniform, waits for an elevator in a decadent pose is as good a depiction as any of the budding teenage actor who is undoubtly an up-and-coming movie superstar in Korea. Kim Tae-gyoon, the film's director, seemed to admit this when he said, "What kind of Korean film director could resist Hyeon Bin?" He was more correct than he knew ¯ journalists, distributors and audience members can't resist the star, either. The film, which opened its set to the press in December ahead of the film's release, had one of the busiest crowds of reporters for local productions. It drew over 400,000 viewers in theaters across the nation when it opened earlier this year. Overseas, the film was sold to a Japanese distributor for a minimum guarantee of $1.5 million, funded by a company affiliated with Digital Adventure. In the end, that's what A Millionaire's First Love does to you ¯ gets you a kiss from other millionaires. Credits: joongangdaily.joins.com
What I Think:
This is the move debut for both the Hyun Bin and Lee Yeon Hee, and they pretty much did really good. I noticed the backdrop setting of the movie, very rural side of Korea that I have not seen before, but down the middle of the movie it made me want to live there because life is so simple and laid back and happy.
Hyun Bin is a good actor, his hairstyle though bothered me a lot, quite long but then it had to go with his image, he was a good-for-nothing bum grandson of a millionaire so yeah the hair did it, I just did not dig his hair here. He can emote in sad scenes, he can make fun of himself and he is looking so good doing it all. I am not a very big fan of his, but in here he impressed me.
Lee Yeon Hee – this is the first time I noticed her and the first time I saw her act. I thought she has a long hair because that was what I saw in their pictures but she is short-haired and man she looks so much like Im Soo Jung! Like they are twins! She looks like her but she does not have half the charisma and that innocent look that Soo Jung has.
To-watch-out-for notes: ^_^
@ The way the Eun-hwan just starts to pop out everywhere...so creepy! She was everywhere! I swear!
@ Im Jo Hwan, talk about 2 hot best friends! He was in the movie for a few minutes and he was looking so good! I love him! He was Hyun Bin’s friend here whom he called for money.
@ Jae-kyung running to get Eun-hwan into the hospital, that was a bit funny…he ran so fast carrying her but he cannot do the laps in his gym class!
@ When Jae-kyung gave Eun-hwan those nice white wool gloves.
@ The part where Eun-hwan was hospitalized and he was lying in the bed next to her, and they were staring at each other; she looks at him when he is asleep and he looks at her when she is asleep too…so sweet!
@ Jae-kyung said “I am here on behalf of flowers...coz they would not allow flowers, so I am here on behalf of flowers.”
@ Father to Eun-hwan: “Don’t be afraid to be happy. He is taking you from me…”
@ Hero of TVXQ sang “Insa/ Greeting” the ost that is a really nice sad song, another nice song is the piano piece with a humming part playing when he kissed her by the rain
@ When they were lying in bed together
@ Hyun-bin playing as the maid! So Hilarious!

My favorite rain scene, I love the background piano song here...
Story is book ended by sequences in spring 1991, the opening one showing the wild-eyed Sang-ho (Jeong Gyeong-ho) being interrogated for three murders. Flashback then starts four weeks earlier, with Sang-ho standing up for a bullied friend at school and taking on the much bigger Hong-gyu (Jo Jin-woong) in a fight in a gymnasium.
The punch-up is interrupted by the entrance of Jae-gu (Lee Tae-seong) who calms the proceedings. Jae-gu, Sang-ho, Hong-gyu and the mild-looking Chang-bae (Lee Heng-seok) end up forming a school gang called the Tigers. When they come across a rival gang, East High, slapping around pretty student Su-heui (Jang Heui-jin), the two groups start to rumble.
Things aren't helped by the fact that Sang-ho starts to take a liking to Su-heui and the leader of East High, a cocky young psycho called Jong-seok (Yeon Je-wook), considers her his ex. Even though Su-heui makes it quite plain to Jong-seok that he never came on her radar, latter uses it an excuse to declare war on the Tigers.
Events escalate when Chang-bae has his leg viciously broken by Jong-seok in one brawl. After one of the Tigers is accidentally killed during a subsequent set-to, Sang-ho plans a do-or-die assault on the East Highers in a pool hall one night.

What I Think:
When I started watching this movie, I was thinking that this might be another one of those high-school brawling kind but I was so wrong. This movie is definitely great but not at par with let’s says, “Arahan” but definitely as good as “Once Upon A Time in High School.” (Starred Kwon Sang Woo and Lee Jung Jin). The music background in some fight scenes was awesome. I have to look for some of the songs. The whole Tiger group were great. The fight scenes were awesome but the one near the end, man that was a blood bath! That was so horrible, the knives, the axes, the blood oozing! And the leg-breaking part, that was eerie!! If you like blood baths, and gut-wrenching fight scenes, this movie is 99% of that, so you will like it.
Jung Kyung Ho – When I first saw him in MISA, I felt he was so good, he cannot just play second fiddle, he should be a lead star in a good movie. His face is very distinguished, he has this aura than can really hold your attention; plus it does help that he looks mighty fine. In fact most of the guys in his peer group are might fine! In MISA, Jung Kyung Ho was frail, demanding, and a bit spoiled; in Sweet18, he was funny and almost unnoticeable, in Gangster High he has a commanding presence and he delivered. I like the fact that he stood up for his friends no matter what.
Lee Tae-seong -as Kim Jaegu god, what was this boy thinking. He was just damn too late…that I have to say, and I don’t know what he was thinking when he did that. Jaegu is an all-around nice boy I guess, he does not like brawls and fist fights. He does not look that bad too.
Jang Hei-jin – as Suhee, wow this is the first time I saw her and she definitely looked so much like Jeon Ji Yeon! Her hair, her height (though I figured she just used really high heels), her lips, god! She looks so much like Jeon! Yeah definitely the lips! She looks so pretty but then again this is a male-dominated movie, she was okay in there. I figured when these handsome oppas start liking these girls, problems start to arise. I hate to admit it but it is always the women. But then again she looks especially pretty here.
The supporting cast, fast notes, Kim Hye Seung looks so grown up here already, okay well almost grown up. He has a few flab and he looks shorter compared with the rest of the boys but he still looks cute. No more Jenny Juno drama here folks! He starts axing people here are you kidding me?! Then Lee Haeng Seok, oh my god, he looks absolutely handsome! He is my latest ulzzang find!! He is like the younger Lee Ki Woo(The Classic, A Love To Kill) ! I have to get over him, he made me forget that I was suppose to be watching this movie and look for Yu-gun (Hello God) oppa! Yu-gun, as I have realized, is not in this movie after all.
