Love Story In Harvard

 

I am currently (read, as in simultaneously) watching lots of Korean series these days, now that "Full House" has finished its run, I am now hooked with Love Story In Harvard! I know, I know you'd think puhlezeeee not another corny love story taking place in Harvard, but I like it! Expect lots of weirdly funny stuff in this melodrama such as funny accent, how Korean people portray American students, and etc. The series is addictive and irresistible!!

 

Kim Rae Won and Kim Tae Hee have such great chemistry!! And she also has amazing chemistry with Lee Jung Jin!! I love KRW and KTH's bathroom scene kiss! That ahs got to eb my favorite kiss of all Korean series I have seen!! The kiss is so wet, so sweet, so romantic; it turns my insides into mush!!! I love that scene; I keep on repeating that one!!

 

The English!!! Oh we are in Harvard, and I was looking forward to being able to hear the 4 actors speak English. I heard Kim Min is an American-raised girl so I know she must speak perfect English and she did amazingly!! Out of the 4, she spoke English perfectly!

Then second would be Kim Tae Hee. I know she's is studying in Seoul University, which is the Harvard of South Korea, so I figured that she might speak English well, coz most of the actors I know going to that school, speak really good English. The 2 guys can speak halting English, that's okay. I just had a hard time deciphering what they were saying. Kim Rae Won would come next coz he speaks English quite slow, then Lee Jung Jin cause he speaks so fast, the words were all over the place! Aishhh!!

 

Oh Oh! I learned something interesting here! 'IJA, AJA, FIGHTING!" means Let's win, Let's go! Fight!" hahah! It sounds cute!  Kim Rae Won said this lines when he does a team check with his team. Then the "Fighting!" part was said by Kim Tae Hee to Lee Jun Jin before they went to moot court.

 

 

Cast:

Kim Hyun Woo (Kim Rae Won)

Law School freshman from Korea.
Grew up in a traditional law family. His grandfather served as a Supreme Court justice, father is the leader of a law firm. His uncle is a high-ranking officer in the police department (prosecuting authority?). Aunt is a law school professor. Older brother is a prosecutor, and his holder sister is a judge. He's always relaxed and has a kind heart that is not controlled by power, fame, or money.

 

Lee Soo In (Kim Tae Hee)

3rd year Harvard Medical School
Moved to the states at a young age. She grew up independently and strongly under a father who was going through many hardships. She is always true to her feelings and can give up her dream opportunity for her love with Hyun Woo.

 

Alex Hong Jung Min (Lee Jung Jin)

American rationalist. Fundamentalist.
His clean manners and style give him a 'aristocratic' look.
He is cold, intellectual and full of confidence. These images make it seem like he grew up with no hardships, but he also lost his father when his father's company was closed due to a lawsuit Hyun Woo's father pursued.

 

Yoo Jin Ah (Kim Min)

Typical American woman.
The type of person that will do anything to possess what she wants.
She simply wanted Jung Min at first but ends up loving him, and eventually gives herself up to capture his love but fails in the end.

** yellowshinsei note: She is the girl from the series "Guardian Angel" with Song Hye Kyo. and she is Bae Yong Jun's rumored girlfriend too.

 

Oh Young Jae (Kang Nam Gil)

Law School professor. Korean that became a Harvard professor at a young age. He doesn't go easy on Korean students. He is a liberal professor compared to Keynes and acts as a friend-like professor to the students. But he also tries harder than the students. He studies and prepares more than the students for each class. He always says that the people that study the most are the professors. His policy is not to specifically help Korean students, but he becomes a good mentor to Hyun Woo, and also tries to help Hyun Woo's fear and problems with Professor Keynes.

 

Han Seul Gi (Jung Sol Hee)

3rd year biology major at Harvard
Arranged to be married with Hyun Woo by their families since she was young. She never thought that Hyun Woo would not be her man. Her affectionate actions may have been a joke to Hyun Woo but to her they were her true feelings. She simply forgot about her emotions until Soo In comes into the story. But she possesses a cool character not to mention her family's forgetfulness. She later realizes that Hyun Woo was part of her forgetfulness and in front of love; even she can't be so 'cool'.

**The production company of "Love Story in Harvard" couldn't get permission to film on the actual Havard campus. Harvard is known to not allow filming on school grounds so their next best option was Southern California. Most of the filming seems to have been done in the USC area and some scenes were filmed at UCLA.

**Love story in Harvard was made in combination of two books - "Love Story" (by Eric Segal I think) and "Bookworms in Harvard" based on a real story of the lives of Korean students who made it to Harvard and studying all the time.

**Viewers are protesting against Kim Tae-hee's supposed death. The producer group is rumored to have second thoughts because of this. K-dramas is famous for cliche stories but it also has another bad reputation of giving into viewers' protest occasionally. (The most horrifying case- Lovers in Paris) Therefore no one knows how it will end.

**There were also lots of comments about both Kims' English pronunciation. Kim Rae-won and Kim Tae-hee both admitted they had hell of a time trying to grasp English dialogues filled with professional terms for law and medical students, let alone pronouncing it properly. (So what? Darn for those who believe everyone should be "born" knowing how to speak English)

Synopsis:

Episode 1: (Aired on 11/22/04)

Hyun Woo (played by Kim Rae Won) is leaving for Harvard Law School. On the airplane, he comes across Jin Ah (played by Kim Min) and she states that she knows the author of the book which Hyun Woo is reading. Since Hyun Woo doesn't know her, he doesn't say too much to her.

After Hyun Woo arrives, Seul Gil, who was engaged to Hyun Woo arranged by both families, helps Hyun Woo to check into a hotel where he would stay for one night. In the hotel, Hyun Woo sees Soo In (played by Kim Tae Hee) is intimately with a middle-aged man that makes him assume that Soo In is a prostitute.

Then Hyun Woo meets Seul Gil's uncle, Oh Yung Jae, a professor of the law school, and he consults with Professor Oh for some suggestions regarding living in the school. He is surprised to see Soo In entering into a lab where she takes of Professor Oh's clothes. Hyun Woo follows Soo In so that he could solve the puzzle.

Hyun Woo's roommate introduces him in a gathering of dorm. Hyun Woo meets some classmates and competitors including Jung Min (played by Lee Jung Jin). When Hyun Woo is concentrating in a lecture in the classroom, Jung Min pinches and makes fun of Hyun Woo that makes Hyun Woo's self-esteem rise.

In the freshmen welcoming party, Hyun Woo once again sees Soo In and she is with James Yoo who is a famous lawyer. Hyun Woo also bumps into Jin Ah. All of a sudden, James Yoo clenches his chest and falls down. Soo In tires her best to apply medical emergency care on James, but …

Episode 2: (Aired on 11/23/04)

In Hyun Woo's mind, he is confused by Soo In's face and voice. Soo In comes across her father Yong Goo who works in a small restaurant with poor business. She has no place to sleep, so she goes to the library, and she bumps into Hyun Woo.

Hyun Woo still misunderstands that Soo In is a prostitute. Hyun Woo stays awake the whole night. Next day, he goes to Professor Kainz's class. However, Professor Kainz disallows Hyun Woo to join his class. Through the introduction of John Prod, Hyun Woo participates in the study group. However, some members of the group refuse to let him join the group. Under the situation of not being able to get into any group, Seul Gil helps him to hire a tutor. The tutor happens to be Soo In who is a student of Harvard Medical School. Then he realizes that the man who he saw with Soo In in the hotel is Soo In's father.

Later, Hyun Woo learns that Professor Oh's health is not in good condition and Soo In has been examining Professor Oh's health. Now Huyn Woo's puzzle is solved. He also learns that Soo In works odd jobs, studies in the university, and performs volunteer services to AIDS patients. Hyun Woo goes to Professor Kainz's class again. He senses that Professor Kainz purposely rejects him out of the class. Thus he argues with Professor Kainz. Finally, Hyun Woo is allowed to attend the class of Professor Kainz …

Episode 3: (scheduled to be aired on 11/29)

Both Hyun Woo (KRW) and Jung Min (LJJ) try to date Soo In (KTH). Soo In explains to Hyun Woo that she has already accepted the invitation of Jung Min, and Hyun Woo is disappointed. In order to attract Soo In's attention, Hyun Woo participates in the activity of the AIDS volunteer group. Professor Kainz informs students about the event of court room meeting.

Professor Kainz announces that he would select two teams that submit the paper of debate in advance. Jung Min and Jin Ah are in the same team and Jin Ah helps Jung Min in preparation of the paper. Hyun Woo believes in his study group and prepares. Two teams happen to use the same subject on their paper of debate. Professor Kainz selects two teams. Soo In is in gloomy mood due to the death of one of the AIDS patients. Hyun Woo visits Soo In and comforts her. Then Soo In's mood gets better because of Hyun Woo. Hyun Woo attempts to kiss Soo In, but …

Episode 4: (scheduled to be aired on 11/30)

Jung Min is angry to see Hyun Woo and Soo In sitting on the grass together. Jung Min accepts Jin Ah's assistance in preparation for the debate. Jung Min's study group starts hampering Hyun Woo's study group when they are looking for the judicial precedence.

Irritated by their behaviors, Hyun Woo has a fight with Jung Min; however he is defeated by Jung Min. After Jung Min learns that Hyun Woo is the son of famous lawyer Kim, he panics and his competitive spirit is stimulated. Jung Min prepares to fight in the decisive battle of the debate.

Hyun Woo and his friend go to the victim's house to search. However, it is not helpful. Hyun Woo gets an idea from Seul Gil, and he gets hold of the clue. Finally, the court room meeting starts. Jung Min and Jin Ah use the facts provided by James Yoo to debate with Hyun Woo. At the decisive moment, Hyun Woo presents the decisive reason that makes him win the debate. Hyun Woo and Soo In share the joy of victory. Jung Min tells Jin Ah the fact that his father committed suicide because of Hyun Woo's father ….

Episode 5:

KTH finds an unconscious person and despite LJJ's warnings about treating a patient without a medical license being illegal, she performs emergency procedures on the person. The persons regular breathing comes back but remains unconscious. KTH and the professor ends up taking responsibility for KTH handling the patient without medical license and ends up in a bad situation. KTH is seriously worried. KRW tries hard to lessen her worries/difficulties but it isnt easy. Meanwhile, the patient regains consciousness.

However, KTH and KRW are unhappily shocked to find out that the patient's guardian is filing a law suit against them due to Jina's (Kim min) persuasion. Jina requests to LJJ that he find a witness for this law suit and puts LJJ in a difficult position. In order to help KTH, KRW digs through files and ends up in the hospital where the patient is at and tries to see the patient even though visitors are prohibited. KRW sees LJJ and Jina in front of the hospital room and he looks at them with a disapproving eye...

 

Episode 6:

Accordingly to Jina's plan, LJJ gets a chance to participate in the court for KTH's law suit. A side of LJJ feels caught because of KTH but he goes to the interview anyway. KTH goes to trial. By getting professor Keynes help with much difficulty, KRW finds a way to help KTH.
When the panel is about to make the final decision, KRW stands up and talks about the law of the Good Samaritan, and after a while, the jury decides not to charge KTH with having to take responsibility. Jina tells KRW and KTH that the patient side decided not to sue her. KTH and KRW are overwhelmed with happiness and LJJ, who ran out of the interview and went to the trial in order to help KTH, is dissapointed/depressed when he sees them together.

Meanwhile, KTH has to leave for her volunteer work in two days without even having time to confirm her and KRW's love for one another. KTH and KRW rent a beautiful cabin and leave for a trip together. KTH tells KRW, who is acting all cute and stuff for KTH, that she has to break up with him. The next day, leaving KRW behind, KTH leaves...

 

Episode 7:

KRW is fighting against a strong and well known law firm but he is able to obtain a surprising evidence that becomes a big help to his case. His father introduces a well respected lawyer, Hwang yoo mi (jung lyuh wohn) as a candidate for KRW's future bride. KRW, who has forcefully met her, couldnt reject her so he makes her walk an hour long walk and buys her chicken feet for dinner. Yoo mi, understanding KRW's meaning, cleanly turns around without hesitation. The next day, KRW waits for a lawyer that he is suppose to work with. Uneventfully, Yoo mi shows up. KRW mouth drops open and he isnt able to shut it. Meanwhile, LJJ and Jina (Kim min) returns to Korea. KTH, who is also going to Korea in order to see her father, ends up meeting them. KRW, who was walking around with Yoo mi to fix things for his case, sees KTH....

 

Episode 8:

KRW wildly runs around the subway station looking for KTH but in the end isnt able to obtain the miraculous reunion with her. KTH starts working as a volunteer in a hospital for foreign workers that her senior colleague runs. KRW ends up going to that hospital as a substitute for his senior colleage Sang Ho, who is working as a lawyer for foreign laborers. KRW and KTH end up meeting. KRW slaps KTH really hard. KRW and KTH are unable to say anything to each other and show an uneasy relationship. Then the two end up talking about how they really feel, resulting in heightened emotions, and causing them to shout and cry at each other. Meanwhile Sang Ho gets hit hard by LJJ and Jina (Kim min)'s law firm. Sang Ho, who was in a state of deep worry, dies of overexhaustion. After seeing Sang Ho die, KRW decides to overtake his case. Hearing that LJJ is part of the law firm that KRW is fighting against, gets infused. KRW, who was getting ready for this case, meets face to face with LJJ....

 

Episode 9:

KRW concentrates soley on Sang ho's case. KTH goes to see KRW because she misses him, but he treats her coldly and talks to her formally. KTH isnt able to say anything and leaves after staying there mindlessly. Feeling bad and having heartache, he follows her out but is unable to meet her. Few days later, KRW goes to the victims village/town and sees KTH and Jason (the german guy). KTH and Jason opens a volunteer event to help the villagers. After seeing KTH angelic actions, Jason goes to the clinic that KTH is volunteering at and shows interest and promises to donate money. Jina (kim min) and LJJ leaves for the environmental pollution asia company after getting a page from them and jason, with a cold voice and expression, demands that they settle the case immediately.Meanwhile, LJJ calls KTH and makes cozy time for her at a nice, luxurious restaurant. When Jina finds out about this, she purposely lies to KRW that she needs to talk about the case with him and takes him to the same restaurant that LJJ and KTH are in. LJJ is startled and KTH, not knowing anything, is highly uncomfortable. Jina tells KTH that her and LJJ are engaged and harshly tells her not to see LJJ anymore. not being able to see KTH being treated so badly any longer, he takes KTH's wrist and stands up. KRW punches LJJ, who had followed them outside..

 

Episode 10:

Hyun Woo would like Soo In to help him, and he tells Soo In that he will pay her for her works. Soo In reluctantly accepts Hyun Woo's offer after consideration. Hyun Woo and Soo In work together and reminisce things happened in the past. Jung Min and Jin Ah investigate how Hyun Woo changed people's opinions. Jung Min is surprised at the result showing that Hyun Woo's overseas law suit is for large amount of compensation money.

Hyun Woo's father and Yoon Mi locate Hyun Woo's office. Yoon Mi immediately leaves the office after she nervously says hello to Hyun Woo and Soo In. Outside of the office, Soo In tells Yoon Mi that she and Hyun Woo were lovers. Inside the office, Hyun Woo and his father have nice conversations.
With complicated mind, Soo In takes Jason's suggestion to travel abroad. As soon as Hyun Woo learns that Soo In is leaving for the airport, he rushes to the airport. At the airport, Hyun Woo and Soo In embrace each other. When Hyun Woo turns around, Soo In weakly faints …

 

Episode 11:

 

Soo-In's dad goes and finds Hyounwoo after he sees his daughter unconscious. When Hyounwoo finds out the truth, he runs to Soo-In. Hyounwoo gets teary when he sees Soo-In. Hyounwoo stays up all night and looks after Soo-In with effort. Meanwhile, Soo-In regains consciousness. The case that Hyounwoo sent to U.S is denied. Hyounwoo finds an interesting way to revive his case. Jason decides to take care of Hyounwoo. For Christmas, Hyounwoo goes to meet Soo-In and when he crosses the street, a car heads toward him at a fightening speed....

Episode 12:

 

Hyounwoo ends with a small injury that does not effect his life. Soo-In calms her shocked heart. Dr. Cha insists that Soo-In take an lumbar puncture after seeing her results of the MRI. Soo-in takes the test, overcoming the excruciating pain of the exam. After overhearing Dr. Cha and a nurse talking, she finds out htat she has malignant form of lymph disease. Jung min finds out that Soo-In has a terminal disease. Hyounwoo does not know the results of Soo-In's test so he goes running around looking for important materials to help out his case. However, Jungmin has already found the important witness and turned him around. Jungmin threatens Jason that he found out all of the dark secrets of his company and that he hire the most expert doctors to cure Soo-In. If he will do so, then he will make sure that he wins the law suit for Jason. Jung min returns the ring that Jina gave him.

 

Episode 13:

Soo In rejected Hyun Woo's proposal for she had to undergo chemotherapy.

Soo In knew from Jung Min that Hyun Woo was accused of bribing a witness of the case and his lawyer qualification was deprived. She went to find the witness but couldn't see him. She left with disappointment.

Soo In told Hyun Woo's father that she would separate with Hyun Woo. She asked him to help Hyun Woo with his difficult situation.
Soo In and the witness's daughter stayed in the same hospital ward and had chemotherapy together. The witness told Soo In that he was bribed by Jung Min for he needed money badly…

 

Episode 14:

Hyun Woo was wrongly accused of…Soo In begged Jung Min to help Hyun Woo. Jung Min asked Soo In to leave Hyun Woo. Soo In was angry and slapped his face hard.

Hyun Woo was taken by the police. He begged the police to have a day's time and then he would go back with them.

Hyun Woo hurriedly took Soo In to a wedding dress salon. He let her wear a wedding dress. Hyun Woo looked at the beautiful Soo In with great admiration.

On the wedding day, Hyun Woo's father appeared and Hyun Woo was very pleased. Hyun Woo apologized to his father and they hugged each other.

As the bride walked into the hall, the little girl (witness's daughter) identified the murderer of her father. She screamed and pointed him out. The murderer was arrested by the policemen who accompanied Hyun Woo to the wedding venue. At the same time, Jason tried to run away. Hyun Woo and Jung Min caught Jason at the airport.

After the longest wedding ceremony, Hyun Woo and Soo In finally had some sweet moments together…however…

 

Episode 15:

Hyun Woo was very worried as Soo Yin looked very sick. Jason called, asking him to give up the lawsuit.
Hyun Woo was glad to know from Soo Yin that there was a suitable match for bone marrow transplant. He sent a message to the potential donor, asking her to help Soo Yin. Hyun Woo and colleagues had many meetings to prepare for the lawsuit. Everyone proposed that Soo Yin be a witness for the lawsuit. Soo Yin accidentally heard their discussion and knew that Jason had connection with the voluntary medical organization. She was very shocked. She also understood that Jason used the organization as a shield undergoing illegal activities. Soo Yin, though very sick, helped Hyun Woo and others to gather evidence and asked to be the witness at court.

 

Episode 16:

Jason caught Anna, the marrow transplant donor, to force Hyun Woo to give up the case. Hyun Woo gave up the lawsuit to save Soo Yin. As Soo Yin prepared to receive the bone marrow transplant in the hospital, she saw Jason and Anna together. She left the hospital for Yin Yue.
Soo Yin was sad that Hyun Woo gave up the lawsuit for her. She asked him not to give up. Hyun Woo was convinced and went on with the lawsuit. Jung Min was sad that Yin Yue gave up saving Soo Yin. But Soo Yin talked to Jung Min and he cried in her arms.
Finally, Hyun Woo, Soo Yin and Jung Min appeared in court. Jung Min became the witness instead of Soo Yin. Everybody was shocked.
Hyun Woo explained to Jung Min that not only his qualification as a lawyer would be lost being the witness, he might be subjected to legal responsibilities too. Because of Jung Min's accusation, Jason was arrested.
Soo Yin got well because of Anna's help……
